IN-STUDIO CLASSES

Drop-off & Pick-up
To maximize our dance time while also ensuring the safety of all involved, we appreciate your help in lining up dancers in the courtyard BEFORE CLASS STARTS and then lining up for pick up BEFORE CLASS ENDS. Here’s a great video of our drop-off & pick-up process.

Once class has started it is difficult to monitor the door for any late comers to check-in, so arriving before class time is essential to the flow of things. For dismissal, we do not want dancers running into the parking lot, so we are dismissing dancers one at a time once we see their parent outside of the metal door. On that note, we cannot let the students for the next class into the building until the class beforehand has been dismissed, so the more we can keep dismissal moving, the better for all involved.

Communication
Please use the email address school@ballet180.org for any school questions or updates.

This is our main email address and the best way to reach us. We have someone stationed to check this email address regularly. You are also welcome to call us at 484-639-9571, however please note that we only have one phone line and we are experiencing a higher call volume. If you are unable to reach us, please leave a voicemail or email us at school@ballet180.org so that we can be sure to get back to you as soon as possible.

    • Helpful Tip: Save school@ballet180.org and 484-639-9571 in your contacts so that you can easily reach us!
Absences & Make-ups
In the chance that your student is going to be missing class, please email school@ballet180.org.

Reaching out when your student is going to be absent helps us to know when all the students have arrived. In-studio classes can be attended virtually through your portal. See the virtual class info below for how to access class via Zoom.

Attire & Hair
Our School Handbook outlines our dress code. Please note that securing hair in a bun is an important part of dance attire.

If hair is not secure it can be a distraction and can make it difficult to see when dancing; especially when wearing a mask. Since we are trying to keep everyone safe and healthy by maintaining social distancing, we are limited in what we can do to help get hair back up if it falls out. Please, try your best to get hair secure before dropping your student off for class. Here is a helpful video on how to do a quick but secure ballet bun.

Mask
Please double check that your student has their mask before lining up for class.

In addition to the typical uniform, we are requiring masks to be worn inside the studios. If possible, an extra mask in their dance bag would be great, just in case anything happens to the first one.

Shoes
Normally dancers might need help with their shoes, so we’ve included some tips on dance shoes below.
    1. The drawstrings on the inside of ballet shoes can be knotted and cut in order to eliminate the need to tie them and tuck them every class. Here is a helpful video (you can start it at 2:40 to learn about drawstrings).
    2. We know that getting ballet shoes on over bare feet can be difficult, especially for littles to do it themselves! Your dancer is welcome to wear a very thin sock with their ballet shoe to help slip the shoes on and off with minimal sticking.
    3. Please take a few minutes to practice putting ballet shoes on and taking them off while at home. This will help students be able to do it more quickly at the studio, therefore ensuring they get the most in class time possible.
    4. Beyond dance shoes, we have noticed our younger dancers sometimes have trouble getting their street shoes on and off by themselves. Some families have found a solution to this by wearing street shoes that can slip over ballet shoes, like slides or clogs. This is a great solution!
    5. Please do not send dancers into the studio wearing dance shoes only. Our staff is working hard to sanitize floors between classes and we want to prevent bringing in outside dirt and germs onto our freshly cleaned dance floors.

VIRTUAL CLASSES

How to Access Your Class on Zoom

  • Login to your Parent Portal before class begins.
  • Find your class under the Calendar section of your parent portal. You can then click the camera icon to connect to the LIVE class through Zoom.
  • Waiting Room
    • The administrator will admit you to the class via the waiting room.  Please note that it may take a few minutes to be admitted from the waiting room, so please be patient.
  • Account Name
    • Please be sure that your zoom account name matches your registered student name so that our faculty can correctly identify you.
Tips for Dancing from Home
  • Find a space that allows you to move without bumping into anything. Ideally you should be able to see your feet and your head in the video camera so that the teacher can provide corrections.
  • For TV’s with a streaming device like AppleTV, Firestick or Roku – AIRPLAY the video from your device to your TV. On your device go to Settings > General >AIRPLAY on. On your TV after you power up your streaming device, Go to SETTINGS > AIRPLAY on. Return to your video and tap on the Airplay icon.
Attire
We ask both our in-studio and virtual students to wear the same uniform. Our School Handbook outlines our dress code.
    • Ballet – Wear ballet slippers; find a chair or counter that could act as a barre.
    • Tap – Be aware of the floor surface. Do not dance on concrete, but protect your floor by putting socks over your tap shoes or wearing sneakers instead of tap shoes.
    • Jazz – Jazz shoes or sneakers may work best depending on your floor surface.
    • Contemporary – Wearing socks is recommended.
