For students under the age of 8, recommendations for dance classes are based on a student’s age as of September 1. New students interested in joining our professional training program are asked to take a level placement class.

 

EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAM

TODDLER DANCE (age 2-3)

This class is an intro to dance for young students interested in trying dance for the first time. The class provides light exercise coupled with basic movement vocabulary. Therefore, it is a great way to explore movement in a safe and friendly environment.

 

PRE-PRIMARY BALLET/TAP (age 3-4)

Pre-primary classes encourage creative movement, self-expression and group interaction while introducing basic movement and music concepts.

PRIMARY BALLET/TAP (age 4-5)

Primary classes encourage creative movement, self-expression and group interaction while introducing basic movement and music concepts. Therefore, the classes introduce children to music and movement through a structured progression of lessons, activities, and games.

 


ELEMENTARY PROGRAM

KINDERDANCE (age 5-6)

Kinderdance classes are a prelude to formal dance instruction. Therefore, students will learn basic vocabulary and steps in a structured, but also fun environment. The class is a ballet and tap combo class with an emphasis on ballet training in alignment, form, and structure.

 

ELEMENTARY BALLET (age 6-8)

Elementary dance classes are a prelude to formal dance instruction. Students will learn basic vocabulary and steps in a structured, but fun environment.

 

ELEMENTARY CONTEMPORARY (age 6-8)

This style of dance applies ballet technique to lyrical music to convey the meaning or mood of the music. In contrast to ballet, it is typically done barefoot and in parallel. Students will learn basic vocabulary and steps in a structured, but fun environment.

 

ELEMENTARY TAP/JAZZ (age 6-8)

This class combines the energy of jazz with the rhythm of tap. Students will learn basic vocabulary and steps in a structured, but fun environment.

 

THEATER DANCE (ages 7+)

A class that incorporates ballet, jazz, and also tap to create dramatic work that focuses on theatrical performance quality, musicality and rhythm.

 


PROFESSIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM

BALLET 1 (ages 8-10)

Students in Ballet 1 study correct form, alignment, and placement through the use of body positions, terminology, and barre work.

 

BALLET 2 (ages 10-12)

Students in Ballet 2 develop and strengthen proper alignment and technique while applying their technique to a variety of movement styles and forms of expression.

 

BALLET 3 (ages 12-14)

Students in Ballet 3 go beyond basic technique. As a result, students at this level begin arranging more complicated dance patterns through increasing difficult steps.

 

BALLET 4 (ages 14-18)

Students in Ballet 4 will begin to focus on the musicality and performance quality of their movement through increasingly difficult steps executed with a emphasis on artistry.

 


TEEN ADULT & PRE-PROFESSIONAL ELECTIVES

 

 

CONTEMPORARY 1 & 2 (ages 8-12)

This style of dance is rooted in ballet technique, but also uses dynamic shapes and expression to convey the meaning or mood of the music. In contrast to ballet, it is typically done barefoot and in parallel.

 

JAZZ 1 & 2 (ages 8-12)

Set to pop music, this style of dance features high energy movement coupled with technical steps such as leaps and turns.

 

TEEN ADULT JAZZ (ages 12+)

Set to pop music, this style of dance features high energy movement coupled with technical steps such as leaps and turns.

TEEN ADULT CONTEMPORARY (ages 12+)

TEEN ADULT BALLET (ages 12+)

Our teen/adult classes appeal to both teenagers (ages 12+) and adults that enjoy dancing on a more flexible schedule in a fun, but also professional environment. We offer a variety of classes throughout the week.

BOYS PROGRAM

Designed for males age 3-18 to enhance athletic skills, strength, discipline, flexibility, mental focus, teamwork, and creativity. Participants in the program will have performance opportunities in Ballet 180’s annual performances.
